It’s a space opera. It’s a tribute to Elite the game past and future. It’s also a look at life from an inter-generational perspective, and a meditation on our place in the cosmos.
Cosmos. Makes one think of Carl Sagan, rest his soul. Say it with me now, through pursed lips: “Billions and billions of tiny worlds.. reaching to infinity…” But I digress…
The story will be driven by two central characters – mortal enemies as circumstance dictates – forced by destiny into each other’s company and who each view the universe from a very different perspective – age and youth. It is a classic motif – the old man versus a young apprentice. Both believe themselves to hold all the answers. The old man has seen more, done more, been deceived more, and has more financially. His experience is his strength, yet sometimes also his limitation. His physical strength is gone, and cannot be drawn on in emergencies. The young man, all cockiness and energy, discounts experience as an asset and has an unshakeable belief in his own street smart sensibility and capacity to respond with strength, speed and good judgement. If they can work together without killing each other, the two represent a formidable team.
Struggling against each other, they soon find themselves dropped into the midst of a larger, even more desperate conflict. They must overcome their differences to survive this mutual threat which threatens to destabilise the entire galaxy.
